ROAD SAFETY RESEARCH CENTRE (RSRC)

ABOUT US

The Road Safety Research Centre (RSRC) was established in 1992 at the Faculty of Engineering, University Putra Malaysia (UPM) by the late Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Radin Umar Radin Sohadi. It is the only research centre in UPM and the regional countries that focused its research in the field of road safety covering issues related to safety of transport system and infrastructure, vehicle, driver and passenger, motorcycle rider and pillion, bicycle rider and pedestrian.

RSRC fulfils its research and consultancy functions through the collaboration of researchers in and outside UPM from various disciplines such as road safety engineering, transportation engineering, mechanical engineering, social science, epidemiology, medical, economics and communication.

Among the research conducted include road accident modeling and management, motorcyclists conspicuity, motorcyclist behaviour modification, helmet wearing and standards, vehicle safety, motorcyclist injury control, accident costing, motorcycle lanes and standards, motorcyclist exposure control, pedestrian safety, bicyclist safety, road safety education in primary and secondary schools in Malaysia. RSRC niche research is in motorcycle rider and pillion safety.

VISION

Being an internationally recognized center of excellence on research progress in the field of road safety for the benefit of a human being.

MISSIONS

  • Continuously conduct basic and applied researches relating to road crashes, vehicle safety, transportation engineering in Malaysia and the regional countries.

  • Transform the problems into research questions and develop the research outcomes into policies, programs and countermeasures.

  • Disseminate and share the research outcomes with the community around the world.
