Putra Motorsport Team (PMT) from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (KMP) at the Faculty of Engineering, UPM, has successfully developed the UPM Racing Car for the 2024 Japan International Formula SAE Competition. PMT, comprising students from the field of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, is a specialized team established at UPM to conduct motor sports activities. PMT serves as the flagship team for the Faculty of Engineering UPM, specializing in automotive engineering. The PMT team has successfully participated in various motor sports activities both domestically and internationally. Recently, PMT has successfully developed a new racing car and the team are gearing up for the upcoming international Formula SAE Japan 2024 (FSAEJ 2024) competition in September 2024.

During the initial evaluation, more than 20 countries with over 100 racing cars participated in the competition. However, only a few managed to pass through the four (4) initial screening stages to qualify for the prestigious international competition. UPM is among those that met and exceeded the stringent participation criteria and is the sole candidate from Malaysia and Southeast Asia eligible to compete in this elite arena.

Recently, the faculty Dean personally visited the project site to provide encouragement and witness the current progress of the UPM Racing Car, which stands at 90% completion. The official launch ceremony which is scheduled on 22 July 2024 marks a significant milestone as the vehicle nears its final form, complete with UPM's logo and sponsor insignias, before being shipped out to the competition venue on 23 July 2024. The project remains open to sponsorship from interested organizations and individuals (subject to terms and conditions). One of the benefits of course is to have the sponsor's logo displayed on the racing car, ensuring global visibility during the competition.

UPM's achievement in qualifying for this international event is no small feat. The journey to the Formula SAE International Competition embodies UPM's commitment to fostering talent and pushing boundaries in automotive engineering. As the countdown to competition day begins, UPM's racing team stand poised to showcase their innovation, skill, and determination on an international stage, representing not only their university but also their country.
