“AIR POLLUTION MONITORING” THE FOCUS OF PROF. DR LUQMAN CHUAH ABDULLAH LATEST BOOK

11th August 2022

Composition and Source Identification of Airborne Particulate Matter in Selected Case Studies in Malaysia is a soon to be published book authored by Prof. Dr. Luqman Chuah Abdullah and teams under the UPM Publisher. The book is currently in its final proofreading phase before it is officially launched in the fourth quarter of the year 2022. Book writing began in 2017 and eventually reviewed in 2019. Book printing was originally scheduled in 2021 but had to be put on hold due to some technical issues and COVID-19 pandemic.

The past few decades have seen countries and/or international organizations taking positive actions to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollutions: air, noise, solid waste, and water. Air pollution is the major issue that has been affecting human health, agricultural crops, forest species, and ecosystems. Prof. Dr. Luqman’s new book sums up his assessment of the nation’s air quality focusing on the presence of airborne particulate matter. This book provides timely information to the academics in universities, postgraduate students, and researchers in relevant field.

Malaysia has enjoyed one of the least polluted urban environments in Asia,” says Luqman “but this might soon to be gone as the nation’s goal to achieve industrial status in 2020 has started to impose costs in terms of industrial pollution and degradation of urban environment”.

“Case studies and air pollution data are very limited in Malaysia,” says Luqman “and this book has presented relevant case studies of ambient air quality monitoring and studies related to air pollution in Malaysia, in most cases from a quantitative standpoint.”

There are three major sources of air pollution in Malaysia which are mobile sources (e.g., motor vehicles), stationary sources (e.g., power stations, industries, etc.), and open burning sources. According to Luqman, monitoring data and studies on ambient air quality show that some of the air pollutants in several large cities are increasing with time and are not always at acceptable levels according to the national ambient air quality standards

Prof. Dr. Luqman Chuah is an author or co-author of 11 books and 18 book chapters. To learn more about his latest book please get in touch with him via email at chuah@upm.edu.my
