Serdang, 1^st August - Congratulations to Professor Ts. Dr. Zurina Zainal Abidin, academician from the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on being awarded USD 5,000.00 for the SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair Grant for AY2025-2026 in the field of Chemical/Biochemical Engineering (topic: Harnessing Jatropha curcas as a Sustainable and Renewable Biocoagulant for Low-Carbon Water Treatment in Agriculture). Another awardee from UPM is Associate Prof. Ts. Dr. Noranizan Mohd Adzahan from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology in the field of Food Processing (topic: High Pressure Processing as a Game Changer for Reducing Food Waste and Environmental Impact).

The objective of the grant is to empower top Southeast Asian scholars to lead transformational change in agriculture and rural development. It focuses on elevating teaching, research, innovation and extension work across the region by recognizing exceptional academics. Thus, the impact of outstanding subject matter experts who able to tackle critical challenges in food security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods, especially among agricultural communities can be widen.

Five awardees for this year including Prof. Ts. Zurina Zainal Abidin herself are outstanding Southeast Asian experts in the academic field whose achievements have made great impact or contributions toward increased farmers’ income, improved food security and nutrition, greater climate resilience of agricultural systems and empowered group of farmers, agricultural stakeholders and their institutions.
