Faculty Of Engineering Bagged Two Awards at The International Conference Of Sugar Palm And Allied Fibre Polymer Composites 2021 (SAPC2021)

11 December 2021, Serdang – Faculty of Engineering bagged two awards including the top prizes for excellence in presentation and writing categories at the International Conference of Sugar Palm and Allied Fibre Polymer Composites 2021 (SAPC2021), organized by Persatuan Pembangunan dan Industri Enau Malaysia (PPIEM), which held on 11 December 2021 via online platform, due to the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

A Master student from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Muhammad Harussani Moklis has won The Best of the Best Award for excellence in both writing and presentation for his paper “Recent development of Biomass and Plastic Waste Derived Char as Nanofillers in Composites”, the paper comprehensively promotes the waste-to-wealth strategy as well as utilization of carbon material–char as nanofillers.

He, who supervised by Prof Ir. Dr Mohd Sapuan Salit, Prof Dr Khalina Abdan and Dr Umer Rashid, took home RM500 in cash, a plaque, a book entitled “Sugar Palm Biofibers, Biopolymers, and Biocomposites”, and an e-certificate.

PhD student Saleh Naji Musaeb Alsubri won the gold prize for Best Presenter award 

PhD student Saleh Naji Musaeb Alsubri, under supervision of Dr Mohd Zuhri Mohamed Yusoff, won the gold prize for Best Presenter award, with his paper entitled "The Energy-absorbing Characteristics of Cellular Core Structures made of Flax-based Composites". He received a book entitled “Biocomposite and Synthetic Composites for Automotive Applications”, an e-certificate, and a plaque.

A total of 150 participants from various countries, including United States, Brazil, Hungary, Republic Czech, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia were gathered in this platform to share and exchange ideas for the better future of sugar palm and allied fibre in research as well as industry.
