SERDANG, 20 August 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), officially welcomed YBhg. Dato’ Sri Jailani Johari, Chairman of the UPM Board of Directors (LPU), in a Strategic Engagement Session with the faculty’s management team held at M.Suite, Level 7, Faculty of Engineering, UPM.

Also present accompanying him were members of the UPM LPU, namely YBrs. Tn. Mohamad Sabrie Mohamad Salleh, Alumni Representative, and YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohamad Satim Diman, Private Sector Representative, who together demonstrated the LPU’s commitment in supporting the university’s excellence and strategic development agenda.

This engagement session served as an important platform to strengthen the strategic relationship between the LPU and the Faculty of Engineering, while also enabling both parties to exchange views on the faculty’s current achievements, challenges, opportunities and future direction in navigating the increasingly dynamic landscape of higher education and technological development.

The programme commenced with the arrival of the LPU delegation, followed by a welcoming speech and recitation of prayers. The session continued with a presentation of the Faculty of Engineering’s strategic profile by YBhg. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Zainal Abidin bin Ab Kadir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UPM. The presentation highlighted the faculty’s achievements in academic affairs, research, innovation, industry networking and internationalisation initiatives that contribute to UPM’s reputation at the national and international levels.

The strategic dialogue session held after the presentation also witnessed constructive discussions between the LPU and the faculty management regarding efforts to strengthen governance, expand strategic collaboration with industry, enhance the impact of research; strengthen the talent development and graduate employability agenda; as well as strategic income generation.

Prior to the visit to the UPM-NXP Collaborative Laboratory, the LPU delegation was first taken on a visit to the Material Characterisation Laboratory (MCL) of the Faculty of Engineering. The laboratory, which recently obtained ISO/IEC 17025 certification, is one of the faculty’s key research facilities that offers high-precision material testing and characterisation services to support research activities, technology development and industry collaboration. The certification demonstrates the laboratory’s technical capabilities, operational competence and compliance with international standards, thereby enhancing the confidence of industry partners and researchers in the quality of data and testing results produced.

The delegation then proceeded with a visit to the UPM-NXP Collaborative Laboratory, a strategic collaboration initiative between the university and industry focusing on the development of semiconductor technology, embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT) and high-impact research. The visit provided an opportunity for LPU members to explore the facilities, research projects and innovation ecosystem developed to support the digital transformation agenda and the development of highly skilled human capital. 

Overall, this engagement session reflects the continued commitment of the Faculty of Engineering, UPM, to strengthening a culture of excellence, empowering innovation and high-impact research, as well as ensuring progressive and responsive governance in addressing the needs of industry and society. The sharing of views, ideas and aspirations generated throughout the session is believed to serve as a catalyst for the implementation of various strategic initiatives of the faculty in the future.

The Faculty of Engineering, UPM, extends its highest appreciation to YBhg. Dato’ Sri Jailani Johari and the LPU members who were present for their kind willingness to spend time with the faculty community. It is hoped that this visit and engagement session will continue to strengthen the synergy between the LPU and the Faculty of Engineering in realising UPM’s aspiration as a globally renowned university excelling in education, research, innovation and service to society.
