SERDANG, 20 Feb – A total of 16 academics from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have successfully completed the Semiconductor Assembly and Test (SAT-Pro) Certification Programme, an industry-driven initiative led by Micron Memory Malaysia to strengthen Malaysia’s semiconductor talent ecosystem.
The certification ceremony was held on 28 January 2026 at the campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, marking the expansion of the programme to several higher learning institutions nationwide. UPM’s participation reflects a strategic focus on university development to ensure sustainable knowledge transfer to students.
The 16 certified participants from UPM represent a multidisciplinary group of academics from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science. From the Faculty of Engineering, participants were from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Department of Aerospace Engineering, and the Department of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering. Academics from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, also took part in the programme.
SAT-Pro is aligned with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy, which emphasises stronger collaboration between academia and industry to produce industry-ready graduates. The structured training provides in-depth exposure to semiconductor package assembly processes, test operations, verification methodologies, reliability assessment and quality control practices within advanced manufacturing environments.
By certifying its academic staff, UPM adopts a multiplier approach in strengthening semiconductor education. The trained academics are expected to embed the knowledge and industry practices gained through the programme into existing courses, laboratory modules and potential new academic offerings, thereby benefiting a wider cohort of students in engineering and science disciplines. UPM’s involvement in the initiative underscores its commitment to enhancing curriculum relevance, strengthening industry linkages and supporting Malaysia’s ambition to remain a competitive and high-value semiconductor hub in the region.
