
Langkawi, 20 May – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has taken a significant step forward as a national leader in technological excellence by signing a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aerospace Technology Systems Corp. Sdn. Bhd. (ATSC) at the prestigious Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025.
This MoU marks the beginning of a new era in strategic collaboration between academia and the national defence industry, aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s local aerospace technology ecosystem. UPM’s Faculty of Engineering will play a central role in advancing
high-impact research, accelerating the transfer of cutting-edge technologies, and nurturing a globally competitive pool of local talent.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, emphasized that this partnership not only enhances national technological capabilities but also serves as a catalyst for achieving technological sovereignty. He highlighted its importance in strengthening aircraft maintenance expertise, enabling strategic technology substitution, and sustaining skilled human capital.
Meanwhile, ATSC Chief Executive Officer, Lt. Col. Dato’ Mohd Fadzar Suhada, expressed strong confidence in the collaboration, describing UPM as a world-class research partner capable of driving innovative aerospace solutions that will advance the nation’s defence industry. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UPM, Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Zainal Abidin Ab. Kadir, noted that the MoU will significantly boost joint research initiatives and open new opportunities for collaboration within Malaysia’s growing aerospace ecosystem.

LIMA 2025, held from 20 to 24 May, continues to serve as a premier international platform to showcase national capabilities in defence, maritime, and aerospace technologies, while fostering strategic partnerships between industry players and research institutions.
