Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
between Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Bentley Systems International Limited on
the collaboration and facilitation of research, transfer of expertise and training on the 8 th
of March 2019 at the Putra Chancellery Building, UPM.
In line with the government's vision to transform the public service and construction
sector towards Digital Construction as stated in the Construction Industry
Transformation Plan (2016-2020) and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), UPM
together with its industry partner, Bentley Systems International Limited has set up
UPM-Bentley Building Information Modelling (BIM) Advancement Lab. Bentley Systems
International Limited, a Dublin-based company, is one of the construction industry
software development companies that supports the 'Digital Construction' requirement
through the use of BIM in building and managing infrastructure, including roads,
bridges, buildings and utility networks.
The collaboration between UPM and Bentley Systems International Limited and the
establishment of the UPM-Bentley BIM Lab, which will be managed by the Department
Of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UPM aims to increase the use of `Digital
Construction` in the construction industry in Malaysia through the provision of
international training and courses to construction companies in Malaysia, as well as
research and expertise sharing between UPM and Bentley Systems International
Limited. The field of construction was selected since UPM already has the required
expertise in the fields of construction, `Digital Construction` and BIM through the
Department of Civil Engineering. With this collaboration, the existing Computer Aided
Design and Drafting Lab (CADD) will be upgraded to UPM-Bentley BIM Advancement
Lab. This laboratory is committed to providing facilities for expert sharing, training and
strategic research which will benefit the construction industry in Malaysia, students,
faculty, researchers and officers involved through cost, time and manpower
optimization in construction in Malaysia. The establishment of the UPM-Bentley BIM
Lab will serve as a leader and academic hub in providing world-class teaching and
learning courses, research, expertise and industry professional experience in the
management of the nation's construction industry.
