Professor Mohd Sapuan Salit has been selected by TWAS Awards Committee during the TWAS 16th General Conference in held China as a recipient of the 2024 TWAS Award in the category of Engineering Sciences from the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), an agency under UNESCO based in di Trieste, Italy in November 2022. This prestigious award appropriately reflects his outstanding contribution to the properties, conceptual design and materials selection of tropical natural fibre composites based on in-depth experimental and design-based investigations. He will receive TWAS Award which carries a case award of USD 10,000. He will also lecture about his research at the next General Conference to be tentatively held in 2024, when he will also receive a plaque.
TWAS Awards are awarded in nine fields: Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Earth, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Physics, and Social Sciences. There are 13 prize winners: one from Brazil, four from China and three from Taiwan, China; one from India; one from Kenya; one from Malaysia; one from Turkey dan one from South Africa. The award winners include four women.
