This research program is designed to accommodate the needs for practitioners, and leaders in various organizations who can play critical roles and are able to make an informed decision in the area of process safety and loss prevention. The increased in demand for supplies such as chemicals, food and pharmaceuticals products and demanding jobs in the manufacturing and construction industries pose dynamic challenges to the management to ensure safer working conditions while maintaining cost effective processes. Hence, good safety culture needs to be inculcated and reliable systems need to be developed. Practitioners and leaders should have knowledge in risk assessment and mitigation, reliability assessment and consequence analysis prior to be able to make an informed judgement.
This graduate program will provide a platform for the candidate to establish skills that are required to make an informed judgement in the area of process safety and reliability. The research areas covered by the program include qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, modelling and simulations which cater for areas such as fire and explosion, toxic dispersion as well as reliability analysis. The provision for engineering, administrative and behavioural controls which include the inherent safer design concepts, safety management system and human performance improvement are also offered and can be part of a multidisciplinary research.
