INTRODUCING AND DEMONSTRATING EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING RESEARCH IN SCHOOLS (IDEERS) 2017

UPM won the Second Prize (30,000 T Dollar) of Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering for IDEERS competition (Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools).


Many teams from various countries include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Canada, Australia, Singapore, China, Philippine and etc participated in this competition as well.

The team from UPM, which led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farzad Hejazi from Civil engineering Department, who experts in the design of earthquake resistant structure, implemented one of his developed new technique to protect the structures against severe earthquake excitation and able to win the valuable award of this competition after Hong Kong team. The National Taiwan University, nominated for the third award.

The UPM team also won the best architect design (5,000 T Dollar) with two other teams as well.

Sarah Jabbar Gatea, Nik Hasby Kalsom Binti Nik Hashim, Haqimah Binti Hairum and Mustafa Kareem Hamzah, postgraduate students in structural engineering were the team member of UPM which supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farzad Hejazi for this competition.
