PUTRA MOTORSPORT TEAM 2022 ORGANIZES FORMULA CAR DESIGN COMPETITION

SERDANG, April 4 - The Formula Car Design Competition was organized by a student club under the Faculty of Engineering, namely Putra Motorsport Team in collaboration with the Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Club (M2EC) of Universiti Putra Malaysia. The program lasted for 3 months from January 8 to March 27, 2022 involving a total of 19 groups of second year students until the final year from the Faculty of Engineering who registered. The main objective of this program is to hone the talents of engineering students especially in the field of mechanical design.

The competition involves several stages starting from a briefing session, design concept report, design report, simulation report and final presentation. Throughout the program, all participating groups must apply the use of software such as AutoCAD, Catia, Solidworks, Ansys and so on. Each report submitted by the students will be reviewed and evaluated by an accredited invited jury from various organizations such as the Malaysian Institute of Road and Safety (MIROS), Perodua and also former Professional Racing Car Racers.

For the final presentation stage of the project, a total of 5 groups of finalists who managed to grab prizes for the entire competition. The student group consisted of the group MARK 48 which won first place, group Faivf  for second place and the group Auto Rift Rancak for third place. Meanwhile, the consolation award was won by Jago Mechy and ANIS. The winners of this competition are judged based on the highest overall report scores as well as the most creative design and meet criteria such as dimensions, shape and simulation features set by the organizers. The winner of this competition will take home a trophy and cash of RM 1000, while RM 700 for second place and RM 400 for third place. For the consolation award winners, this group will bring home RM 200 in cash per group along with a souvenir plaque.

The final presentation session was held online through the Google Meet application and was also attended by invited jurors. The final presentation session was also broadcast live on the Youtube via channel PMT UPM  to the audience. With the implementation of this program, it is hoped that all students involved benefit and input primarily in the field of automotive and mechanical. - UPM
