Perak, 2 September - A team of students from the Rocketry Club in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia, known as Putra StarX, achieved remarkable success at the Malaysia Rocket Competition (MRC) 2025. The event took place from 2 to 4 September 2025 at ILD Kampung Gajah and FELCRA Seberang Perak, and it was organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
In order to reach the finals, Putra StarX had to pass a rigorous selection process together with more than 60 other teams from schools and universities. The competition also included international participants from Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, which made the challenge even more competitive.
This marked the team’s third year of participation, and they entered the competition with their innovative rocket named Putra-25. They competed in two categories, namely the one kilometre Rocket with CanSat and the CanSat challenge. Since the beginning of the year, the students had been preparing intensively, which included producing detailed documentation, building the rocket, and carrying out technical testing. These efforts ensured that they were ready to deliver a strong performance.
Their determination and teamwork were rewarded when Putra StarX won third place in the one kilometre Rocket with CanSat category, earning a cash prize of RM100. This success continued their streak of three consecutive years of achievement, which reflects the unity, dedication and commitment of the team members.
The students also received strong support from Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Norkhairunnisa Mazlan, who serves as the Advisor to the Rocketry Club, and from Dr. Izzat Najmi Mohd Ya’acob, who serves as the Coach. The Office of Research & Innovation and Industry & Community Relations at the Faculty of Engineering UPM also played an important role by offering support and contributions that motivated the students throughout the process.
This achievement not only demonstrates the ability of UPM students in the field of rocket technology, but it also enhances the visibility of the university in the area of space exploration. Through innovation and engineering expertise, the students of UPM continue to bring pride to their institution.
