SERDANG 15 April - Lecturer, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM},Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit received the "SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership" from the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE International} recently.

 The award was presented during the annual SAE WCX Experience conference in Detroit, Michigan, USA (USA} on 5 until April 7, 2022. 

The medal was presented by the President of SAE International, Dr. Sri Srinath and Dr Subir Chowdhury himself, who is also the Chairmanand CEO of ASI Consulting Group LLC Michigan. 

In addition, the SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership is awarded to individuals who are academics or industries that have recognized abilities as well as contribute skills to achieve goals to advance andpromoting the principles and application of quality in the Mobility Engineering profession. 

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan is the first recipient of this award from outside the United States. 

This award is in recognition of him for his outstanding contributions in the field of composite materials research and making an impact in the mobility engineering industry.

Previous award recipients consisted of experts in the automotive field from leading US companies and universities such as General Motors, Dynax Corp., Caterpillar Inc., JD Power and Associates and the University of Maryland.  

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan said he expressed his gratitude for receiving the medal. 

“I did not expect to get such recognition by SAE International and this proves that expertise UPM lecturers and Malaysians are accepted internationally, "he said in a statement. 

He said he hoped the receipt of the medal would help raise the image of UPM and Malaysia at the international level. 

Previously, he had received the “Outstanding Technical Paper Award” in 2017 from the Society of Automotive Engineers International Malaysia (SAE International Malaysia) and was the first SAE Fellow from Malaysia to be appointed during the year 2015. - DagangNews.com (dagangnews.com).
