Imaging and picturing have become part of humans' life. We get used to "Kodak" term when we want to mention film rolls used by film-based camera. It has evolved since then, and now with the use of digital camera, the imaging industry has boomed. There are many applications of digital imaging, and this book focus on the most interesting application of all, i.e. medical application. Medical imaging is a very important application because it involves humans and the question of possible live or death. Moreover, it is the most difficult application of all, because we can only "imagine" what the internal structures will be looked like. One of the important medical image modalities to assist us imagining what is inside, is by using gamma camera imaging. The high sensitivity of the gamma camera has been proven that it can be used to image the activity, locality and size of the cancer cells. However, from a different aspect, it has low resolution. A few improvements have been made to the gamma camera hardware to increase the sensitivity and resolution of the camera. As a result, smaller cancer cells and earlier cancer staging may be detected. The hardware configuration has been developed as a mobile prototype which aimed for easier handling of the camera. From the angle of algorithms improvement, a few intelligent and adaptive image processing algorithms have been developed to improve the quality of the images as well as assisting the detection of region of interest. All in all, a complete value chain of an imaging system has been developed and tested, in view of assisting practitioners to use digital images to their fullest potential.
